tested, with the results on their own pages. We're in Millersburg, Ohio, about
seven hundred miles from Boston, Massachusetts far enough that families will usually facetime us to see the puppies and/or parents then transport their puppy to them via flight nanny or ground transport. Both are great options.
Two ways to get your puppy to Massachusetts
It's about seven hundred miles from us to Boston. Almost nobody is driving that to get their puppy, so the real question is which kind of trip suits you. We do both, and neither one is the budget version.
Ground transport is $300 to $600. A professional pet transport service handles the run in a climate-controlled vehicle. No airport, no terminal, no carrier under an airline seat. Your puppy is checked on, walked, watered, and brought to you.
Timing depends on the route. The service runs planned routes rather than one-off trips, so how soon New England comes up varies week to week. Once we know your go-home window we'll get you the actual dates instead of guessing at them.
Personal flight nanny is generally $850 to $1,650. Your puppy travels in the cabin, in a carrier under the seat, with someone whose only job that day is your puppy. Usually into Logan, though Providence can be easier if you're down toward the South Coast or the Cape. Fastest option by a wide margin, and the date is fixed the moment it's booked.
Neither one uses a cargo hold. That's deliberate. It's the part of long distance transport that goes wrong for people, and we've simply taken it out of the equation.
Which to pick. Ground saves you several hundred dollars and skips the airport entirely, but the arrival date is softer. The flight costs more and lands on a date you can plan around. Tell us which matters more and we'll set it up.
Where in Massachusetts you are still matters a bit
Not for the drive, everyone's equally far. For the last hour.
Greater Boston, Lowell, Haverhill. Straightforward either way. Logan is the obvious flight option.
The Cape and the South Coast like Falmouth, Wareham. Worth thinking about timing. If your go-home date lands in July or August, a Friday afternoon handoff means sitting in bridge traffic with a nine-week-old puppy. A weekday, or a morning arrival, is a much better first day for everybody. Tell us early and we'll aim for it.
Western Massachusetts like Holyoke, Springfield. Slightly shorter run for ground transport, and Bradley is sometimes an easier flight option than Logan.
The paperwork Massachusetts wants
There's one Massachusetts quirk worth knowing, because it catches people out. Massachusetts does not accept the USDA Form 7001 health certificate. Plenty of vets reach for that form by default. Massachusetts wants the origin state's own certificate of veterinary inspection instead so ours comes on Ohio's official CVI, issued within thirty days of travel.
We arrange that. Nothing for you to organise. We mention it because if you're talking to other breeders about a Massachusetts placement, it's a fair question to ask them.
Rabies applies at six months in Massachusetts, and your puppy comes home at nine weeks. So that one's on your vet's schedule, not ours but it's worth knowing the date so it doesn't sneak up.
Your town licence comes from your city or town clerk, required once your dog is six months old or at its first rabies shot, whichever comes first. Massachusetts handles licensing at the municipal level, so it's your own clerk's office rather than a state website.
Our contract asks you to have your own vet see the puppy within 72 hours or three business days of arrival. Book that before travel day, not after.
One thing to ask your Massachusetts vet
Ticks. Massachusetts, and the Cape and islands especially, sit in one of the heaviest tick regions in the country. Holmes County has ticks too, but not on that scale. Ask your vet what they recommend and when to start it, rather than waiting until you find one.
Reading the paperwork from seven hundred miles away
You're not going to pop down and meet the parents, so we've stopped pretending that's the plan. Instead: both parents' OFA results like hips, eyes, heart, and their genetic panels are on their own pages, and you can read every one of them before you spend a dollar.
Most Massachusetts families do a video call with us and with the litter before reserving. You're welcome to drive out if you want to, and some do. Home visits are by appointment, any day but Sunday. But nothing about reserving from Massachusetts requires it.
