Bringing home a Cavapoo puppy is exciting — but preparation makes the difference between chaos and confidence.

If you’re getting ready for your new companion, you may be wondering:

What do I actually need before my Cavapoo comes home?

AtAdora Perfect Pups, we always encourage families to prepare ahead of time. The first week sets the tone for training, bonding, and routine.

Here’s a complete, practical checklist to help you feel ready.

1. Crate (Proper Size Matters)

A crate is one of the most important early tools for:

  • Potty training

  • Safe sleep

  • Independence training

  • Preventing accidents

Choose a crate sized for your Cavapoo’s expected adult weight, typically between 10 and 25 pounds.

It should be large enough to:

  • Stand up comfortably

  • Turn around

  • Lie down fully

Avoid oversized crates during puppyhood — too much room can slow potty training.

2. Comfortable Bedding

You’ll need:

  • A washable crate pad

  • A separate dog bed for daytime use

Choose durable, machine-washable materials. Puppies explore with their mouths, so avoid overly delicate bedding.

3. Food and Water Bowls

Stainless steel bowls are ideal because they:

  • Are easy to clean

  • Resist bacteria buildup

  • Are durable

Avoid plastic bowls, which can harbor bacteria over time.

4. High-Quality Puppy Food

Before bringing your puppy home:

  • Ask what food they’ve been eating

  • Avoid abrupt diet changes

  • Transition slowly if switching brands

Small-breed puppy formulas typically support healthy development.

5. Collar, Harness, and Leash

For a Cavapoo puppy, choose:

  • Lightweight adjustable collar

  • Soft harness (gentler for small frames)

  • 4 to 6-foot leash

Avoid retractable leashes during early training.

6. Grooming Supplies

Cavapoos require regular grooming.

You’ll need:

  • Slicker brush

  • Metal comb

  • Nail clippers or grinder

  • Ear cleaning solution

  • Dog-safe shampoo

Starting grooming routines early builds comfort and confidence.

7. Safe Chew Toys

Puppies explore through chewing.

Provide:

  • Durable rubber toys

  • Soft teething toys

  • Puppy-safe chew items

Avoid small parts that can be swallowed.

Rotating toys keeps engagement high.

8. Puppy Gates or Playpen

A confined, safe area helps:

  • Prevent accidents

  • Reduce overwhelm

  • Limit destructive chewing

  • Create structure

Supervision speeds training success.

9. Potty Training Supplies

Be ready with:

  • Poop bags

  • Enzymatic cleaner (for accidents)

  • Puppy pads (if using temporarily)

Accidents will happen — being prepared reduces stress.

10. Veterinary Appointment Scheduled

Before bringing your puppy home:

  • Research a trusted veterinarian

  • Schedule first wellness visit

  • Plan vaccination timeline

Preventative care should begin immediately after arrival.

11. ID Tag and Microchip Plan

Ensure your puppy has:

  • An ID tag with your contact info

  • Microchip registration completed

Early identification prevents future emergencies.

12. Establish a Routine

Before arrival, decide:

  • Feeding schedule

  • Potty break timing

  • Sleep location

  • Training expectations

  • Household rules

Consistency from day one reduces confusion.

13. Household Preparation

Make your home puppy-safe by:

  • Removing loose cords

  • Securing trash bins

  • Storing toxic plants out of reach

  • Blocking unsafe spaces

Prevention is easier than correction.

14. Mental Preparation

Perhaps most importantly, prepare yourself.

Expect:

  • Nighttime wake-ups

  • Accidents

  • Puppy biting

  • Energy bursts

  • Learning curves

The first few weeks require patience and structure.

At Adora Perfect Pups, we remind families that the puppy stage is short — but the habits you build now shape the next decade.

What You Don’t Need

Avoid overbuying:

  • Too many toys

  • Multiple beds

  • Excess treats

  • Complex training gadgets

Simple, consistent structure works best.

Final Thoughts

Preparing for a Cavapoo puppy isn’t about perfection — it’s about readiness.

When you have:

  • A safe space

  • A consistent routine

  • Proper supplies

  • Realistic expectations

You set the foundation for a confident, well-adjusted companion.

At Adora Perfect Pups, we believe thoughtful preparation creates smoother transitions and happier long-term outcomes.

With the right checklist in place, bringing your Cavapoo home becomes less stressful — and far more rewarding from the very first day.
